Job Description:
Our client is a large, international, diversified company based in Tokyo. Our engineering center of excellence in Chicago is currently developing controls and power systems for a Smarter Energy Grid. This group is responsible for architecting and delivering software and firmware systems to provide wide-area control and integration of disparate battery systems, power inverters, solar, and wind systems.
Position Overview:
As a Senior Controls Engineer, reporting to the Software Development Manager of Energy Storage, you will be responsible for control system and application development on a distributed grid-scale energy storage platform. In this dynamic environment, you will be called on to do many things, and occasionally be the sole development resource on a project. Position is located in the West Loop area of Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain Matlab control models for energy storage platform, including existing models of Batteries, Inverters, Generators, and other related components
• Translate these models into XML definitions for use by the runtime control system
• Implement C/C++ based Linux server-side control applications
• Develop additional related C/C++ software components as applicable
• Occasional travel within USA and to Japan

Salary Range and Bonus Potential:
• $ 140,000 to $ 170,000

Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in developing PID control systems in Matlab
• Experience in turning Matlab/mathematical models into C/C++ applications on Linux
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP communications (Modbus/TCP experience also desirable)
• Familiarity with source code and issue tracking systems, SVN and JIRA preferred
• Demonstrated history of delivering quality products
• System level experience with battery and/or power management a strong plus

Qualifications:
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent (Master’s Desired)
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a dynamic development team
• Agile, able to handle rapidly changing requirements
• Excellent verbal and written skills
